Hi there. My name is Charity Olson, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I work from a Cognitive Behavioral and Solution-Focused approach. I specialize in depression, anxiety, and trauma.
My approach
I work from a collaborative standpoint with my clients. I enjoy utilizing Cognitive Behavorial therapy as I truly believe that changing the way you look and think about different situations in your life will change your behavior and give you the positive outcomes you seek. I will also work with you on finding practical solutions to problems within your life around depression, anxiety, family stress, difficulty with minor and adult children as well as traumatic events that have taken place within your life. Within therapy, I collaborate with you and carefully listen to your wants and desires so that we make sure that all of the goals that we set fit you just right.
My focus
I typically do individual counseling with adults aged 18 and up. I work with clients primarily on depression, anxiety, family conflict, and personal trauma.
My communication style
I provide a very nonjudgemental, calm environment for my clients and do use humor at times to build relationships with my clients. I enjoy getting to know people at their own pace, so there is no pressure or feelings of being rushed through therapy. It is very important to me that you advocate for yourself and let me know if you would like to change goals or feel that I have said something that does not align with the beliefs that you hold as I attempt to be very respectful of everyone's individual journey through life.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was brought to this career through my own personal strife. I come from a low-income household with two separated parents who both struggle with mental illness. It is my passion to let people know that they are not alone and that no one is perfect, not even your therapist! We are all humans and as such we all have conflicts at certain times in our life. I'm here to listen and help you navigate through life's turbulent waters.
My goals for you
I believe that goal setting is very personal to you. I will make suggestions for goals; however, you ultimately sail the ship of therapy. We will collaborate and find goals that fit you individually.
My first session with you
My clients should expect to have a relaxed first session in which I listen carefully and work to build rapport. I am very excited to get to know you!
